I am just posting this today maybe it will make it real for me. I am focused on the line from our literature that says "What would I be doing right now , if this weren't happening. It has gotten me thru many bad days in the past.

Last nite I lost a dear friend, we had just gone to a play in a comunity a few miles away,she had dropped us at our cars about 10-30pm. We honked good bye at the light I turned left she turned right, 5 min later she was dead.

She was struck by a truck that had 5 teens in various stages of drunkedness, all are in the hosp. she luckily was killed instantly she probably didn't even see it comming.

One of our areas old timers at the age of 63 , she sponsored half of our district i am sure,will be sorley missed.  We had just talked on the way home how grateful she was for this prog. thanks to Al-Anon  sanity had been returned to her family they were so close she relished the role of grandma and devoted her life to being there for them.

I felt the need to do this here because life is so short and you never know what God has in store for us. One of her fav sayings was "Do It Now" don't wait , get your life back, tell those u love them  everyday even if your angry at them, take the trip u want, buy the things that make u feel good and show God how much u can enjoy the gift he gave you. Life!!!! not always the way we want it but we have choices about how were going to live it. 

She showed us by her example of where this program can take you , I hope I can pass it on . her fav saying was Love is for free and fun. no strings. Man I don't know if I will ever get there but she has left me one hell of a goal.

Gods gift to us is Life- what we do with it is our gift to HIM

 

 

I am sorry for your loss.  But how blessed you are to have known her.  She sounds like she embraced this program in all areas of her life.  While it is sad to hear news like this - it does serve to all of us that life is short and to make the best of it while we are here.

My heart goes out to you now and in the days to come. My tears go out to you now too! What your friend to you said and that you posted it here is a TRUE GIFT to me and I am sure to anyone that reads it. I have not heard of all these sayings before and WOW, they will immediately help me now and forever too.

I just think so much of you abbyal! You have helped me so much! I see now through your post how others can live on in this world through their friends and through the people's who lives they touch. Gosh, I wish I could keep on typing to make your pain better, but for now, I will say prayers for you and her family and friends. Love yas! cdb

Dear Abby,

    I am so sorry for your loss.  I too lost a very dear life long friend last year.  I can feel your pain.  I miss her so much.  She too taught me a lot about life.  She was a very giving caring person.  I think about her very day and remeber what a loving person she was and how blessed I am to have been a part of her life.

Dearest Abby,

I am so sorry for you loss.  My husband lost his brother at a very young age due to alcoholism, as well as a good friend.  Today when he talks about either of his fallen fellows, he remarks, "God takes some of us so that others can truely live".  Your dear friend lost her life, but through her lifes story, you have shown us the importance and dearness of ours.  She has touched many she would have never touched in life through you, and lives in you as well as all that keep her alive through their passing on of her rich words of recovery.  Thank you for sharing her with us, hopefully we can all "truely live" because of it.

I am soooo sorry for your loss.  By the sound of your friend though, she most definitely was a gift to this world.   You can be so thankful and blessed by God to have been given such a wonderful friend.  :)))  Keep those memories and that gift in your heart always.  Ya know, when my 2 nieces, ages 6 and 12, as well as my 3 nephews twins-age 9 and another age 4 died in a fire, something that I became aware of is how our loved ones, friends and anyone else we care about are really blessings and gifts given to us by God.  We may call family OUR family, but really they are just a gift-- they do not belong to us from the beginning, they belong to God and God is gracious enough to give them to us or us to them for a time during our life.  As you said, it is what we do with Life, that gift that God gives us that makes it so special and even more importantly is who we love and has loved us completely that allows us to see the reflection of Gods love for us.  Allow God to give you all the comfort you need to go through this grieving process and always know that He cares so much for how you feel.  Someday it will be our turn as well-- when He calls us back home and until then we should be so thankful for the gifts he is always providing in our life til then....  HUGGGGSSSS

o my gosh, what an unexpected, heart-breaking shock for you!  i completely agree with everything all your other replies have said with all my heart.  the only other thought i have to add is, it seems hp always takes the good ones!  it just breaks my heart.  you will be in my thoughts and prayers.  dealing with losing a loved one is another one of our life-long tasks, i think.  remember we lost my son-in-law last sept. at age 24.  the grieving seems to go in waves, at least for me. 

thank you so much for sharing your wonderful friends awesome attitude about life.  what an inspiration to all who read or hear about her, and who knew her.  i agree with the others that you are the same inspiration to others who come to this board and to the room, abby.  you are a pillar to this place, and are gifted at helping people get grounded and get things back in proper perspective.
