Sorry, I haven't posted for awhile. I have to key this quickly as my laptop has been shutting down on me unpredictably. My A was in the hospital with his emphysema in December; then again in January; and again in February. He isn't doing very well w the emphysema--on oxygen--and can't walk very far. Manages to take his portable oxygen to the bar and stay until the wee hours of the morning, and then continues to wonder why he isn't improving. I have decided that I am not going to say much (doesn't do any good anyway), as when he is at home he has no life anyway. His friends are at the bar. He didn't do much before all this happened and does even less now. So taking care of this situation and also my 98 yr. old mother has made me realize the responsibilities of life and how little control we have over what really happens to us. My A wants to live (I think) and my Mom wants to die.
Don't know what is wrong with my laptop. I'll end this now before I have to start all over again. My love and prayers to all of you. Annie

Annie, thanks for updating us on what's happening. You are amazing I hope you know - your husband on one side and your mother on the other. I hope you're taking special care of yourself (including time for yourself), because you certainly have people willing to take the rest of you. Take care. Take care.

Annie,
Wow. That's a lot to deal with.
Just reading your post about your husband makes me realize how powerful the disease of alcoholism is. My goes out to you as you try to keep yourself afloat and help the people you love the most. I know how hard it is for me to see someone I love in pain of any kind without becoming completely drained.
Please take care of YOU. In program I have heard many times that I can't give away what I don't have. Keep some of your warmth and love and compassion just for you.
Love and hugs,
Jessi

Hi Annie - Good to hear from you again. My thoughts and prayers are with you. You have a lot to deal with so come to the board when you can. Sharing problems seems to make them easier to handle - we know we're not alone and our friends here care and love us.
Love and hugs - Dot

Hi Annie,
I have been wondering how you have been.
About the laptop, may be the battery is dying? Try running the laptop on regular power with the battery OUT and see if that helps - that has fixed laptop problems for me before.
My A gets somewhat better when he is too sick (from a cold) to drink. Sometimes I hope for a germ so that I can spend some time with him and not his disease...
What alot of stress between your A and your elderly mother. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
