I haven't heard from my wife since last Sat morning.  She was to go into a treatment facility for 2 or 3 week program. 

Is it normal that once in the program they don't allow you to contact outside friends and family?  No one has heard from her, not myself, her children, or her best friend.  We have tried to call the facility and all they will tell us is that they will post a message for her.  They won't confirm that she is there, or any other details.

It's not like my wife not to call anyone, unless they have asked her not to.  I was thinking maybe they want her focusing on herself and her recovery, and therefore don't allow outside calls.

Has anyone experienced something like this? 

I know I need to let go, but I struggle with this as she has suicidal tendencies due to her bipolar.

Hi Rory - Whenever the a in my life went into a treatment center there was no contact with the outside for at least a week and one time it was for 2 weeks. Try to focus on youself. She'll need your trust and support when she comes out. Love in recovery - Dot ((((((((((((Rory))))))))))))

Ten years ago when my husband was in a thirty day in patient facitility, they had what they called a two week black out. For the first week they where in a detox section, to get medical attention if necessary and the second week they wanted them to get settled in to the routine of the facility. I heard from my husband after two weeks and he then told me I could come for a visit. I assume his councilor will be contacting you soon if they want to do any family counciling.

Right now, keep working on you and allow her to concentrate on herself.

For my daughter's recent inpatient treatment program, yes it is very common to not have them contact anyone for a week at least. Now, my daughter did sign a legal paper saying the center and I could talk about her situation etc. That surprised me! If a person does not sign the permission paper...or whatever it is called, they can't even admit they are there or there could be legal problems. Well, that is the case here in ND, USA. Keep coming here for support and work on you now. I did that while my daughter was in treatment for 2 months and it acutally went by pretty quick for me. I am so grateful I was working on me because like others she is out of treatment now since Friday but is moody and not quite herself yet. This place has been a lifesaver for me and a great support system. Keep us updated. I care and I am sure everyone else here does too. cdb  :)

thanks for all the encouragement and advice.....I feel much better knowing that it is common for them to have a "no contact" policy while in treatment.  It makes sense that they do this, it's just too bad that the family has to suffer through the uncertainty of everything.

I'm truly grateful for finding this message board.  It has help put a lot of things into perspective for me.

Howdy do Rory, I trust the holidays were good your way. There is much gratitude in my heart for our site and the good we do for / with one another. It is not easy sliding around the madness we have to go through. Since I have been in school, I feel like it is a detox tx center. As I have been coming to al anon, I feel its a tx center as well.
