Well my A found out I was on here and was fine with it. I was . I have been searching for literature but haven't bought any yet. I don't have much I want to say yet. I would like feed back on what I do say though but I'm not getting much feed back. That's all I have to say for now.

Your wife being fine with you being on here say alot about her.  You should be impressed, I know my wife would not be happy I was on here, that is why I only go on here at work.  YOur wife must recognize you need help too, that good for you.  Keep coming back.

Hi, I am glad you are not getting stress from your spouse about being here. It is important to be here for yourself no matter what but it always helps not to have extra roadblocks on the way... If you are new to Al-Anon as well as this site, I would suggest you spend some time reading and thinking about Step One: Admitted we were powerless over alcohol and that our lives had become unmanagable. I have heard many times in meetings that this is the only step you need to do perfectly. Basically, that means that without this step, you can't get the rest. All the steps are written in the "we" form. This is not a solitary nor isolating program. We all understand your troubles and many have been there. Keep coming back and take care. I can only tell you what I've read.  First I went to the library.  They ordered in for me what they didn't have on stock.  So it was free to read.  I read

"How al anon works for families of Alcoholics"    Very informative of how al anon works, plus some personal stories.

"Paths of recovery"  Great info & description of the twelve steps & the 12 traditions.  I'm still reading this. 

"Courage to change"  daily reader. I just got this one.  Seems nice for daily thoughts.

"One day at a time in al anon"  I got this one from the library.  A daily reader too.  I liked it, so I just bought it on ebay for $1.81. 

Oh, I also kinda read "Getting them sober"  The title is decieving.  The books tells you how to help yourself.  Not a bad book. 

 

Hope it helps.  I go to the library, in case I don't like the books.  The ones I really like I then buy.

((((lanchas)))) Glad you are here and glad your mom accepts that you are seeking help. I know that when I was young alanon could have helpped me in so many ways. My dad is an A and was abusive to me so I ended up moving out of home and in with a friend at a young age. Now that I am 28 I see how things have affected my life in so many ways. I have a brother and a sister who I rarely talk to and have just started to share my life with and in self discovery I shared with my sister what life was like for me and she had no clue at all. She has no clue who I am as a person at all. I now have a good relationship with my dad and don't harbour any bad feelings. I am not glad that awful things happened but I have learned alot from my colorful past. I have a strong personality and I think it is because I had to be strong so young and grow up so fast. I have also been thinking about the coincident or lack there of that my dad is an alcoholic and I happened to marry one. I hope that alanon does help you as it could have helpped me at your age.

Lanchas, Sorry for not naming the right person in your life... However, I am a co-sponsor for a local Alateen group and that material may help you too. Do a Web searh for Akateen. They have their own Web site and literature approved by the World Service Office. You also may want to attend a face to face Alateen meeting if there is one in your area.
