I am in a dilema and I dont where to turn.I have been in alanon 2 years now.I am single mom
of 2 teens , one is 18 works pt time and goes to college and the other in hs.My ex a is not in our life.I lost my job in octand how we have gotten by I would have to write a book of all the ways God has taken care of us. I got a job offer of a job as a manager in dollar store, i took the offer knowing it would be almost physically impossible for me to do.See I am 52 years old and have a club foot which i limp alot on and cant stand for many hours at a time lets get real i cant stand more 10 min without pain. my new boss said you will be in a rough area and standing all day unloadeing trucks etc i said oh who me i can do any thing. well it didnt work out.i ma still sending resumes out buyt it seems as no one wants to hire me. and before i get alot of reponses like your family i have no family, my church family has helped me but they are sick of it all want me to get a job alanon family helped some too in the begining but they want to just get a job.i have to say this out loud today oh i will crash and burn,i am 52 , over wieght, look crippled and have no skills and no education . so some will say go to the state, well in texas you cant get help if you dont have a job.my 18 year old is not speaking to me and when she does it like when are you gons get a job you never do any thing , and slams the door and walks out.i have sent reumes every where and am still interviewing..i am up till 3 am most days looking for work.i have been through alot most wont ever go through thank God and i know God is real and wonderful and capeable and i been praying the 12 tradition almost every night i have confessed any thing i have done wrong i dont know why i dont have a job.even though i am in alanon and have a church home i have never in my life felt so alone and so overwelmed and wata giive up but my kids have no place to go so i gotta keep going on but how i have applied all kind of jobs walmart , mcdonalds all the hopsitalls , the city the county the state, you name it i have applied..i dont know how we are gonna make it this rest of the month or next any ways thanks for being here listing , it is been A while..my heart is broken and my spirit is broken and i jsut dont know what to do next off to worksource to see the openinigs for next week . thanks dori

I would call the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation. They have a new name depending on what state you are in. Call your state department information number and ask what their number and name is. They may be able to help you or refer you to other agencies that may be able to help you due to your physical limitations. You can also call a social worker at a local hospital and they may be able to direct you to the correct place or give you the phone number. I do not know if this will help but please do at least give it a try. I am glad you posted to at least get your feelings out in writing. Keep us updated on how things are going. cdb

I am sorry you are still going through hard times. All you can do is keep trying, and looking, I know it is hard.

I found this website from what used to be the Tx Dept Rehabilitation Commission. Check it out. My husband went there years ago and they payed a stippend (sp?) while they sent him to school to learn a trade. Maybe they can help you find something. Don't give up Dori. Work related services are individualized and may include counseling, training, medical treatment, assistive devices, job placement assistance, and other services. I don't know if this will help either but I felt compelled to respond. I am soooooooooo sorry for your pain. Some of the things you can control - yourself. You can set boundaries so your children don't walk all over you.
Please keep coming to post on the board and to open chat and or meetings. This will help build your self esteem. When you are strong and confident, you will shine and others will realize you aren't to be walked on.
Regarding jobs, check out this link and read up on Americans With Disabilities Act. If you are qualified by experience or education for a certain job but are being discriminated against for your disability, you can call the Commission Against Discrimination in your state. Unfortunately, it is true that others view overweight people differently and my heart truly goes out to you. Ask your doctor if there are any exercises that you can do to help you with your weight.

All I can offer is direction to focus on what you have accomplished in your life already. You indicated that you don't know how you've gotten by this far other than what God has blessed you with.... I know the feeling, as I too as a mother of two children (single) little help and bad influence from their father has made it difficult. Although, younger, I had my children right out of high school and am now successful in a career and recently bought a house on the lake. However, it was during the past 10 years I went through 2 bankruptcies.... Yet, this house fell into my lap, not one penny down even. All I've done the past few years whenever I began to worry or get anxious about the future or my life circumstances, particularly financially and how I'd raise my children is take those thoughts and close my eyes and force myself to see God's face or silouhette of what we portray Him to look like.... In turn, this allows me to reflect on all He has done for me and remember how things continue to work out despite my worry. God is AMAZING, today, tomorrow, and always. Just remember what Jesus went through, the pain and suffering of those who he loved tremendously. He took it for us and in turn gave us the relationship with God. Which means it is during our most difficult times, trials and tribulation we are closest to God-- He is there with us, wanting to hold us in the palm of His hand offering inner peace. I read something today on a bulletin board at a church, which I found interesting. It read, inner peace is when you do what is right when nobody is watching. :))) It is a powerful statement because ultimately God is ALWAYS there, through good, through bad and for eternity. This life is only a short journey to our real home and what we do here, how we love others will be reflected there. Hang in there and Trust in God completely. Proverbs 3 5-6 says Lean not on your own understanding. Trust in God with all of your heart and he will make your paths straight. :) Hope this offers some comfort and hope. Take Care! :)))
